John P. McNeil, 68, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home after a long courageous battle with prostate and bone cancer.
He was born on April 23, 1956, in Mount Vernon to Charles and Roberta McNeil.
John was a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon. Working for the Coke Company, Jervis B. Webb, and Fred Silver Company.
He was a quiet man with a quick whit that put a smile on everyone with his sense of humor, right to the end.
John could fix anything with his great mind for problem solving. He could build anything and was a master woodworker.
John enjoyed golfing, fishing, football, jigsaw puzzles, playing golf on the Xbox and Nintendo gaming. He also enjoyed road trips to Wheeling with Nita and looked forward every summer to watching his granddaughter’s ballgames.
John will be lovingly missed by his wife of 20 years, Nita (Oswalt) McNeil, his children, Amber (Collin) Kightlinger, Dacia (Will) Layton, Nathan McNeil, Meghan (Sara) Arnold, Kathleen McNeil; seven granddaughters, Cambria Layton, Natalie Layton, Julia Layton, Claire Kightlinger, Annie Kightlinger, Kaylen McNeil, Olivia McNeil; his father, Charles McNeil, brothers, Chuck (Pam) McNeil, Don (Jennifer) McNeil; sister, Jenny (Kevin) Kidwell; brother and sister in law, Mike and Tracey Oswalt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta McNeil; mother-in-law, Lois Warner; fathers-in-laws, Loren Oswalt and Ron Warner; brother-in-law, Steve Kidd, along with an infant brother, Michael.
The family is observing private celebration of life service and burial.
The Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel is handling the services for the family.
