Judge's gavel and scales of Justice

MOUNT VERNON — 15 people were recently found guilty after court trials, arraignments and hearings in Mount Vernon Municipal Court.

These were the cases brought forward by the Mount Vernon Law Director’s Office.

NOV. 9

Marvin Herman, 63, of Independence MO., was found guilty of driving Left of Center. The Court sentenced him to pay a $125 fine.

Elizabeth Mills, 37, of Gahanna, was found guilty of Driving Under Suspension and Speeding. The Court sentenced her to pay a $200 fine for Driving Under Suspension and a $75 fine for Speeding.

Christopher Staten, 26, of Mount Liberty, was found guilty Driving Under an FRA Suspension. The Court sentenced him to pay a $250 fine. Law Director, Rob Broeren represented the State of Ohio and the City of Mount Vernon in the Mills and Staten cases. Assistant Law Director, Brittany Whitney, represented the State of Ohio in the Herman case.

NOV. 8

Christopher Christine, 27, of Columbus, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle Without a Valid Operator’s License. The Court sentenced him to pay a $200 fine. Brian Grigsby, 55 of Newark, was found guilty of Speeding in a School Zone. The Court sentenced him to pay a $50 fine.

Derek Kolk, 44, of Manistee, Michigan, was found guilty of Speeding in a School Zone. The Court sentenced him to pay a $75 fine.

James Morrison, 58, of Oil City, Pennsylvania, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle with Fictitious Plates, Driving Without a Valid License and Speeding. The Court sentenced him to pay a $75 fine for the Fictitious Plates charge, a $200 fine for the Invalid License charge and a $75 fine for the Speed charge.

Michael Bryant, 45, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Assault and Criminal Damaging. The Court sentenced him to serve 124 days in jail for the Assault charge and to serve 90 days in jail for the Criminal Damaging charge. Jeremy Born, 38 of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Disorderly Conduct with Persisting Behavior. The Court sentenced him to serve 30 days in jail, with all time suspended, and placed him on one year of probation with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment.

Shawn Caudill, 45, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The Court sentenced him to serve 10 days in jail.

Joseph Helmuth, 44, of Butler, was found guilty of Domestic Violence and Endangering Children. He will be sentenced on Dec. 20, 2022 following a pre-sentence investigation.

David Doering, 56, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Telecommunications Harassment. He will be sentenced on Dec. 20, 2022 following a pre-sentence investigation.

Director of Law, Rob Broeren, represented the City of Mount Vernon and the State of Ohio in these cases.

NOV. 7

Steven Allen, 53, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $700 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 160 days suspended, placed him on two years of community control with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment, and suspended his operator’s license for two years.

Louis Marti, 42, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 175 days suspended, placed him on two years of community control with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment, and suspended his operator’s license for one year.

Chris Underwood, 58, of Galena, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 177 days suspended, placed him on two years of community control with the following condition: attend and complete a 72-hour driver intervention program, and suspended his operator’s license for one year.
