MOUNT VERNON — Knox Foodies is going international for this year’s food truck rally.
International food trucks will make a pit stop at Mount Vernon’s square on Sunday Oct. 2, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. as 13 vendors with options ranging from tacos to Puerto Rican coffee participant.
The event is spearheaded by Knox Foodies LLC, a Facebook group dedicated to spotlighting local restaurants in Knox and surrounding counties. The page is a way of advertising for the food trucks.
It’s owned and operated by Ann Weisent, a Knox County resident who’s passionate about finding great food ranging from Centerburg to Millersburg.
The page began during the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic, when local restaurants had to shut their doors for an unknown amount of time. Take-out options were the main source of support in this new way of serving food for restaurants.
It its first years the rally included five trucks. In 2021, there were 10 trucks, Weisent said.
The first rally was at Aerial-Foundation Park, where foodies placed their order online and meals were brought to cars, while volunteers partnered with the Knox Health Department wore PPE and masks.
In 2021, it was held at the square similar to this years.
PW Marketing & Events, Weisent’s business, is hosting the rally along with several sponsors. Knowing several food trucks across the state, Weisent went through her list of over 200 trucks and pondered on a theme for the third rally.
The pick — international. But don’t worry, there are two trucks with American classics, including a grilled cheese truck and smash burgers.
The 13 food trucks are:
- Schmidts, a German style food truck.
- Rock-N-Rolls, an egg roll food truck.
- Tabouli Cafe, a Mediterranean inspired food truck.
- Tropical Frappe, a Puerto Rican food truck.
- Fork in the Road, a sandwich food truck.
- Titos Asian Kitchen, an asian food truck.
- Cupzilla, a Korean food truck from Columbus.
- Cosmic Fusion, a Cuban food truck from Columbus.
- Taco World, a Mexican food truck.
- Shrimp Lips, a southern style food truck.
- La Macaron, a macaron and gelato food truck.
- Hibachi Run, a Japanese style food truck.
- Steak-N-It, a smash burger food truck.
“One thing about the food truck rally is we strive to support our local businesses,” Weisent said.
“The goal is to bring something unique and different to Knox County. Not to book the Knox County trucks, if you bring someone in that hasn’t been here before people are going to try something new, we had a mix of trucks from out of town.
“Local trucks did no business. We’re bringing new, diverse food opportunities here.”
The feedback received from restaurants has been great, Weisent said.
“Everything we do is free.”
Weisent often hears “I never knew about this restaurant in Fredericktown or in Martinsburg.”
The food truck rally will also feature two local bands: Ryan Otis Bandy and CPB.
And without the support of sponsors, Weisent said, the rally couldn’t be what it is today.
