MOUNT VERNON — With the first day of school just mere days away for Mount Vernon City Schools students, Superintendent Bill Seder gave the board an update on what the first day will look like at Monday’s board meeting. 

Mount Vernon’s first day is Thursday, with kindergarten having a staggered start from Thursday to Aug. 25.

Back-to-school nights are as follows:

  • On Tuesday: Elementary 6 to 7:30 p.m.
  • On Tuesday: 7th and 8th grade 4 to 6 p.m.
  • On Thursday: 6th grade 6 to 8 p.m. 
  • On Thursday, Aug. 25th: High School 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

All teacher positions are filled throughout the district, Seder said, bus drivers included.

The board also approved:

  • Cameron Hart and Melinda Hart for high school athletics and Briannah Burger for middle school athletics. 
  • Accepted 17 backpacks filled with school supplies donated by Women United, an affinity group of United Way of Knox County.
