This story has been updated to clarify that Centerburg’s band department has not yet applied or been accepted to participate in the 2023 St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
CENTERBURG — Centerburg’s school board approved the band to do a little traveling next year, and take a bite out of the Big Apple in the process.
On Monday the board approved a band request to travel to and perform in New York City for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2023. Although the board approved travel, the band department has not yet applied or been accepted to participate in the parade, band director Chuck Dettmar wrote to Knox Pages.
In other business, Gabrielle Adair will start as Centerburg’s vocational agriculture teacher next autumn. The district’s board of education approved a one-year contract for Adair Monday night.
Other items Monday dealt with district finances. Treasurer Lori Houck amended a few items for the 2022 fiscal year.
Houck added $5,837.31 from the the Ohio Attorney General Safety Grant the district received to the certificate of estimated resources and permanent appropriations, which will mainly go toward cameras, she said. Houck also increased the athletic fund by $10,000 because she said she had underestimated expenses.
Other financial items Monday included the board approving Sedgwick Claims Management Services Inc. as the 2023 Workers’ Compensation Group Rating Program at an annual cost of $2,835.00. The district has used Sedgwick Claims Management Services for several years.
The board accepted donations to support athletics and music.
Specifically, the Centerburg Athletic Boosters Club girls basketball parent group donated $955.34 to the athletic fund, and Centerburg Old Time Farming Festival donated $200 to the music fund.
Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds are still available for use, and the district assigned some of those funds Monday for learning loss after school and summer programs.
The board approved pay rates for certified staff at $35 per hour, certified non-staff at $20 per hour, and classified staff at $15 per hour.
