MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Fire Department held a Ribbon Cutting ceremony this week for the brand new patio that was constructed over the past several months by Knox County Career Center’s Building Trades program.
The Mount Vernon Fire Department will benefit from this construction project.
“This patio space will be used by fire department first responders to relax, spend time with their families, and enjoy time with each other,” Mount Vernon Fire Dept. chief Chad Christopher said.
The project broke ground at the end of October and was finalized in May.
“The young men and women in the Building Trades program did an outstanding job with this patio project for the Mount Vernon Fire Department,” Colby Clippinger, KCCC’s Building Trades instructor, commented. “I am proud of students for producing such high-quality work.
“This project was a win for everyone including KCCC, Mount Vernon community, the trades, and first responders.”
A special thank you to Ohio Contractors Association (OCA) and Melanie Kitchen, Director of Chapter Development at the OCA, Bobby Small from Small’s Sand & Gravel, Jeff Wintermute & John Ellis from Ellis Brothers Concrete, Miller Portables, and J & T Vinyl Graphics for everything they contributed to make this project possible and a success.
KCCC would also like to thank City of Mount Vernon Major Starr for his support of this project at the groundbreaking and ribbon cutting ceremonies.
In addition to the patio project, Melanie Kitchen, OCA Director of Chapter Development, presented four Muddy Boot Awards to KCCC Building Trades students. Each student received a $200 gift card for Red Wing work boots. The KCCC students who were recognized as Muddy Boot Award recipients were Owen, Dylan, Kinsley, and Trevor.
