MOUNT VERNON — A solution, albeit an unusual and perhaps temporary one, has been found to the frequent complaints about parking problems in front of the Post Office.
Safety-service Director Joel Daniels said that resident Andrew Pike did some research and discovered there was no ordinance on the books regulating the types of vehicles that could park in the spaces on West High Street. Daniels said that all of the signage restricting parking will be removed from those spots within two weeks. The spots will still be 30-minute parking, but the city may eliminate the spot closest to Mulberry Street to ensure a better line of sight for vehicles backing out of the other parking spots.
The handicap sign and spot will remain. Daniels noted that the administration will also be looking into correcting the convoluted route in place for handicap access to the Post Office.
