MOUNT VERNON – On July 4th at 9:33 pm the Mount Vernon Fire Department was dispatched to a 2 story residential fire at 300 Greenwood Ave. The MVFD arrived on scene with a command vehicle, two engines and a medic. Mutual aid was also received from Fredericktown Fire and Fredericktown EMS.
On scene, MVFD found heavy smoke coming from the home. The residents were not home at the time of the fire. Firefighters made an offensive attack, locating the fire in the laundry room. The fire was quickly extinguished. The home suffered fire damage to the laundry room and kitchen. The first floor and second floor suffered smoke damage throughout the home.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The Red Cross was called in to assist the residents. Fire Prevention Officer Terry Davis is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
