MOUNT VERNON – This week is Severe Weather Safety Awareness Week in Ohio. As part of this awareness effort, Knox County Emergency Management Agency encourages the community to get prepared. As part of that preparation, on Tuesday March 3rd the County will also be testing the reverse 9-1-1 capabilities which will include a reminder of Wednesday’s tornado drill.
On Wednesday, Knox County will be participating in the statewide tornado drill which is scheduled for 9:50 a.m. During this time the County will sound the outdoor warning sirens, and the State of Ohio will test the Emergency Alert System. Schools, businesses, and households are encouraged to practice their tornado drills and emergency plans.
Wednesday evening, in cooperation with the Knox County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), the National Weather Service will be conducting SKYWARN® Severe Weather Spotter training. Registration will begin at 6:00 P.M. with the course beginning at 6:30 P.M. The training will be held at the Knox County Memorial Building. The training is free of charge and no preregistration is necessary.
