MOUNT VERNON – Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer has released his 2014 annual report. The report shows a decrease in burglaries, thefts and vandalism reports over the previous year but an increase in assault, domestic violence, drugs, and missing persons reports.
Two officers received special recognition for their performance over the past year.
Detective Deputy Craig Feeney was nominated by his co-workers as the outstanding officer of the year for 2014. He is currently assigned to the Detective Division, and also serves as a task force agent with the Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force.

Detective Lieutenant Gary Rohler received the Commendation Award for his work on a multistate prescription drug trafficking investigation that resulted in twelve persons being indicted on over 400 felony counts. Over a four year period the group was responsible for obtaining over 100,000 pills.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office operates a full service jail that houses several classes of inmates: those who are awaiting trial on either misdemeanor or felony charges, those who have been sentenced on either misdemeanor or certain felony charges, and those who have been sentenced on felony charges and are awaiting transport to prison.
The KCSO also has a contract with the U.S. Marshall’s Service for housing federally charged inmates.
The Knox County Jail is inspected regularly by the Knox County Health Department and Mount Vernon Fire Department. The jail is certified by the State of Ohio and by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. This year the jail received a full compliance rating on their state jail inspection.
There were a total of 1600 jail inmates last year.
Shaffer says, “On behalf of our officers and staff, I would like to thank you for your support this past year. This report contains activity and information relating to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office for 2014. I think it is important to share our activities and accomplishments with the public.”
