Are you interested in reminiscing about the past?

Do you remember the “old days” in Mount Vernon and Knox County? (Even if those “old days” do not seem all that long ago)?

Do you like talking about—or listening to others talk about—local history?

Do you just enjoy lunch and pleasant conversations?

If any of that interests you,

please join us for a Knox County Conversations event at the

Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County.

This month, we invite participants to enjoy a light lunch as they share memories of parks, recreation, summertime, and the outdoors in Mount Vernon and Knox County…or whatever else comes up.

For centuries Europeans believed the world’s largest jungle concealed the glittering kingdom of El Dorado. Hundreds had died looking for it, leaving many convinced that the Amazon was truly inimical to
humankind.

In 1925, Percy Fawcett launched an expedition, determined to prove that this ancient civilization—
which he dubbed “Z”—existed. Then he and his entire expedition vanished.

Eighty years later, after stumbling upon a hidden trove of diaries, acclaimed New Yorker writer David Grann set out to learn what happened.

Read the book and come discuss what he found.

In 2010, Werner Herzog was given permission to enter France’s Chauvet Cave to film some of the oldest surviving paintings in the world.

Some were more than 32,000 years old.

Human stories do not get much older than that.

Come watch the film with us and learn what he saw there.
