MOUNT VERNON – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who jumped from Ariel-Foundation Park’s Rastin Tower on Wednesday morning as Ricky D. Snyder Jr., 35, of Newark.
The sheriff’s office also released a timeline of the events that led up to Snyder Jr.’s death on Wednesday morning, which included reports of high-speed driving, a stolen vehicle, an altercation and eventually a car crash at the Action Waste facility on Pittsburgh Ave., which sits just beyond the park’s border.
TIMELINE:
8:20 a.m. – A report was received of a truck driving at a high rate of speed on East Gambier Street in the area of Park Street in Mount Vernon. At approximately the same time, the dispatch center was receiving information concerning an abandoned vehicle and a stolen vehicle from a location on Sycamore Road.
The stolen vehicle description was similar to the vehicle that was spotted at a high rate of speed.
A few minutes later, reports were received that the driver of the truck was involved in an altercation with someone on West Gambier Street.
The truck was then observed driving on West High Street toward Harcourt Road.
8:34 a.m. – Officers received information that a truck had crashed on Pittsburgh Avenue, and the male driver fled on foot.
8:40 a.m. – A male was observed jumping from the tower at Ariel-Foundation Park.

The sheriff’s office also noted that Snyder Jr. was identified as the owner of an abandoned vehicle that was discovered on Sycamore Road.
The Mount Vernon Police Department and Knox County Coroner’s Office are assisting the sheriff’s office in this investigation.
