MOUNT VERNON – In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles, Get Healthy Knox County is inviting local walkers to be a part of a team to walk in the Earth Day Challenge on April 19. The annual Earth Day event includes a half-marathon and a 4-mile walk. The Get Healthy team will participate in the 4-mile walk.

The first 50 walkers to register with the Get Healthy Knox County team will receive $5 off of the registration fee. The early bird registration deadline is March 1st with a registration fee of $20; after March 1st, it will cost $25 to register. With the $5 discount, Get Healthy walkers will pay either $15 or $20, depending on when they register.

Get Healthy Knox County is an initiative of the Knox County Community Health Improvement Plan. It is coordinated by the Knox County Health Department with support from United Way of Knox County, the Mount Vernon YMCA, Knox Community Hospital, The Main Place, The Freedom Center, New Directions and other local agencies.

The discount is available only for the first 50 walkers who register with the Get Healthy Team. To register for the Get Healthy Knox County walking team go to www.gethealthyknox.org and click on the Earth Day Challenge logo for instructions and a direct link to the race registration site.
