MOUNT VERNON – The Knox County Park District this week announced something new at Wolf Run Bark Park. It’s Green Scoop, a pet waste removal and recycling program. Green Scoop is an eco-friendly company and is the first business in the country to turn pet waste into energy. Lori Totman, Knox County Park District director, says Green Scoop’s van runs on dog waste.

Compostable bags are available at three locations within the park.  Dog owners pick up after their pet,  place the waste in the compostable bags and then into one of the three waste stations at the park. Only the compostable bags are to be used for this purpose. Ordinary grocery store bags are not to be used, they are not compostable and will need to go to the landfill.

Green Scoop’s owner Jendell Duffner takes care of the rest. The Wolf Run Bark Park will be serviced twice weekly throughout the busy season.  Totman asks dogs owners to let the Park District know what you think of this new service.
