COLUMBUS — A Mansfield man was killed after a two-vehicle crash on I-270 early Thursday morning, according to a Columbus police report.
Mario Tufts-Davison, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash around 12:49 a.m., the report stated.
The driver of the other vehicle was not named, but was also seriously injured. According to the police report, the adult driver was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital and listed in critical condition.
Police stated that Davison was operating a 2011 Kia Optima in the second lane of eastbound I-270 between I-71 and Cleveland Avenue. At the same time an adult was operating a 2017 Ram 2500 and entered I-270 eastbound going westbound, from the eastbound I-270 exit ramp to Cleveland Avenue.
Police reported the Ram continued going the wrong way into the path of the Kia. The front of the Ram struck the front of the Kia. The impact pushed the Kia backwards in a northwest direction into the median wall. The Ram came to rest on top of the Kia.
All lanes of I-270 East reopened after an approximately five-hour closure due to the crash.
The Accident Investigation Unit responded to the crash scene and initiated an investigation, which is ongoing.
