FREDERICKTOWN — The faithful filed into Fredericktown Stadium on Wednesday evening to officially dedicate the facility after it underwent months of renovation.
For Fredericktown Freddies fans, it was worth the wait.
“This is all about the community support and the students,” Athletic Director Tim Doup said. “The community has waited very patiently. We have a brand new track and football facility with a state-of-the-art scoreboard.”
With the stadium under renovation, the Freddies had to push back their home opener. The first game in the new stadium is set for tomorrow night, when the Freddies host KMAC rival Cardington-Lincoln Pirates.
“I am looking forward to Friday night. I think we are going to have a huge crowd, and this facility benefits everybody,” Doup said.
School Superintendent Gary Chapman believes the new facility will transcend sports.
“It means so much. It is an opportunity to honor our past traditions and the history of Fredericktown, celebrate the present, and then, what it really means to embrace the future,” he said.
Chapman is well aware that the stadium is by the community, for the community.
“We are grateful for all of the people who have played a part,” he said. “We are very excited about this, and all of the people who have played a part. We want to showcase this for our students, what this community has invested in them.”
The Fredericktown marching band kicked off the celebration and Round Hill Dairy provided free ice cream.
