MOUNT VERNON —

It has been many years since United Way of Knox County’s campaign exceeded its goal by the New Year.

During Wednesday’s Knox County Health Assessment Partnership meeting, members celebrated the success of United Way’s fast-paced 2013 campaign focused on the community investment formula of “Relationships + Resources = Results.”

“The call to LIVE UNITED in support of our community’s education, income and health needs is one that obviously has been heard and answered with overwhelming supportand excellent results,” said William B. Levering, Sr., 2013 United Way campaign chairman.   In September, Levering kicked off a campaign to raise $800,000 with almost 41% of that goal already achieved as of the official kickoff date.  Momentum for the campaign continued to build reaching the 95% marker as of the first week of December.

“Over the past ten days in particular, we have processed numerous personal andcorporate contributions made by new, as well as long-time, United Way investors from across our county,” said Jen Odenweller, executive director.  “It has been an exciting effort by many to utilize these relationships to secure the resources needed for programs and services which will bring our community significant human impact results in 2014.”

Levering shared with the Knox County Health Assessment Partnership that not only has the lofty $800,000 goal been achieved in pledges of support from community investors, but the goal has been exceeded by more than $57,000 in pledges as of this date.  This means United Way of Knox County has raised an additional $100,000 over prior year final campaign results, something for which Levering is most grateful.

Everyone in the Partnership strives to build a community which fosters hope and opportunity for everyone in our community, said Levering.  “Obviously, today we celebrate living in a healthy, vibrant community that does believe in taking care of its own while creating a better life for all. That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED.  Levering thanked Partnership members for their daily efforts to impact local lives.Opportunities for expanded investments in education, income and health focused programs will be discussed by United Way’s Board of Trustees during upcoming meetings.

Final 2013 campaign totals, awards presentations and other recognition will take place on Thursday, February 27 during United Way’s Annual Meeting at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Ariel Arena.  The meeting begins at 2 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.
