FREDERICKTOWN — If you love golf and dogs, or golf, or dogs or just want to practice your putting stroke for a good cause, Vernon View Golf Course at 901 Beech Street, is the place for you on Friday, April 18.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Putts for Mutts will take place at the practice green near the clubhouse.

For a $10 donation participants get three putts, the overall closest distance for all the three putts will determine the winner.

First place will receive the appropriately named Lab putter, second place will receive a dozen Titleist Pro V1 golf balls and third place will walk away with a $20 Golf Galaxy gift card.

The fundraiser is the brainchild of Cooper Lowe, a junior at Fredericktown High School.

“I am doing this as my National Honor Society Project,” Lowe said. “I love golf and thought about doing a golf outing but decided on this because anyone can participate.

“You don’t have to be a golfer to putt.”

Lowe has a vested interest in the contest, not only is he a member of the Fredericktown High School golf team, but also has a 10-year-old Golden retriever named Charlie.

Lowe said that he really does not have a goal.

“We would love to donate $1,000, it may be  closer to $250, but anything will help, right?”

There is no need to pre-register, just show up, grab a putter and donate $10 to the dog shelter.
