MOUNT VERNON—On Tuesday afternoon, the Republican faithful gathered on South Main Street to support U.S. Senate candidate Bernie Moreno.

Donald Trump Jr. and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham joined Moreno on the steps of the former Huntington Bank at 136 S. Main St.
U.S. Congressman Troy Balderson also added his support.
The Knox County Republican Party organized the rally after receiving a call from Moreno’s campaign. According to Griffen Rothgeb, chair of the Young Republicans, 700 people responded to the invitation to attend.
When city officials learned the expected crowd size, they decided to close South Main Street between Vine and Gambier streets during the rally.
Rothgeb estimates attendance was between 500 and 700.
Moreno is challenging Democrat incumbent Sherrod Brown for an Ohio U.S. Senate seat. Brown has held his seat since 2007.
Current polls show Moreno with a 2-point lead over Brown in the hotly contested race, which could decide the Senate majority.
Donald Trump Jr. and Sen. Graham are not the only national figures stumping for Moreno. South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott is scheduled to join Moreno on Wednesday, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will appear on Friday.
Sen. John Thune of South Dakota appeared with Moreno on Monday.
