MOUNT VERNON — A 49-year-old woman was found dead Thursday morning after a shooting incident inside a residence in the 700 block of Upper Fredericktown Road.
According to Mount Vernon police, officers are holding Jason D. Payne, a resident of the home, on an alleged probation violation from Cuyahoga County.
Officers responded around 1:43 a.m. to a reported disturbance at the home in the 700 block of Upper Fredericktown Road.
When the officers entered the home, they found a deceased 49-year-old female.
Payne, 42, was the only other occupant of the home, according to the release.
MVPD detectives were called to the scene along with investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
“The incident was isolated to the single residence and there is no danger to the public,” according to the MVPD press release.
Police said it’s active and ongoing investigation. Authorities said they are not releasing the female’s name in accordance with the state’s Marsy’s Law.
Additional criminal charges may be forthcoming and additional details will be released as appropriate, police said.
