MOUNT VERNON — As followers of Jesus Christ, it is helpful and insightful to ask ourselves, “What would happen if Jesus got His way?” From this was born the Lifepoint Church’s Backpacks of Hope program.
“Lifepoint determined hungry school-age children would have access to healthy food over the weekend if ‘Jesus got His way,'” explained Bryan Wolfe, executive pastor at Lifepoint Church.
“This program has grown since its simple beginnings in 2016, and we have been able to provide healthy weekend meals to hundreds of children in the Mount Vernon City School District.”
For the 2023-24 school year, Backpacks of Hope is supplying four weekend meals and snacks to 100 elementary children in Mount Vernon.
“This would not be possible without the generous support of our church community and grants provided to Lifepoint from Knox County Food for the Hungry and the Laborers’ Local 1216,” Wolfe said. “Their generous support has proven our philosophy that we can do it better together.”
