GAMBIER — The Mount Vernon Players will present “Glassheart,” a romantic dark comedy by Reina Hardy, Oct. 9–11, at the Gambier Community Center, 115 Meadow Lane.

Directed by Ainsley Sweeny, the play offers an unexpected twist on “Beauty and the Beast” by exploring what would have happened to the Beast if Beauty had never arrived.

Set in modern-day Chicago, the production follows the Beast and his last faithful servant as they search for a way to break their long-standing curse, navigating America with the help of luck and a meddlesome witch.

Sweeny chose the show for its fairy tale charm paired with contemporary social commentary on mental health, self-worth, redefining beauty, and modern romance.

Across three performances, the production uses its cast and crew to examine questions about love, the cost of living and the meaning of life.

The cast features:

  • Alex Nyamohanga as Beast
  • Beverly Shade as Only
  • Amy Tatz as Mrs. Russe
  • Julia Manning as Aoife Lipman

The Players invite the Knox County community to experience the production. Tickets are available at mountvernonplayers.com and at the door prior to each performance. More information can be found on the organization’s website and social media pages.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students.
