David “Skip” D. Bevington, age 78, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 14, 2026. He was born on December 3, 1947, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the son of Delbert and Jean (Sellers) Bevington.
Dave was a 1966 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and attended Judson University. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and worked from 2013 to 2018 for the Knox County Veterans Affair office.
Dave was a longtime member of The Church at Chapel Hill. He devoted 55 years of his working life to WMVO and WQIO radio stations, retiring in 2013. During his remarkable career, Dave served as a newsman and show anchor and was the founder of the Sports Roundtable, a program he started more than 35 years ago. As some might say, Dave was google on sports before there was google. His passion for local sports and the people of Knox County made him a familiar and beloved voice throughout the community.
Dave was a staunch advocate for Knox County Food for the Hungry and generously gave his time and talents to many community causes. He also served as the emcee for the annual Memorial Day Parade, a role he took great pride in.
Family was extremely important to Dave. He cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren and devoted many years to coaching Little League baseball and softball alongside his son and daughter. He loved being involved in their activities and creating memories that his family will treasure for years to come.
He is survived by his wife Reecalee (Schank) Bevington, whom he married on June 4, 1972, his son, Jason T. (Jaime) Bevington of Mount Vernon, a daughter, Shawnna (Andy) Francis of Mount Vernon, six grandchildren, Serena (Brendon) Wintermore, Tyler (Krystal) Bevington, Hunter (Rachel) Shields, Cody (Mariah) Bevington, Aleigha Francis, Zane Francis and numerous great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Caime.
