Douglas Warren Butterman, age 75, of Howard, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 17, 1950, in Marion, Ohio, to the late Stanley and Dorothy (Tron) Butterman.
Doug graduated from Worthington High School in 1968 and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he earned both an associate’s and a bachelor’s degree from Franklin University. Doug went on to found his own business, Doug Butterman Builders, where he built custom homes in the prestigious Muirfield Village community in Dublin, Ohio, and later in New Albany, Ohio, before retiring. In retirement, he cherished spending his summers on the screened in porch on Apple Valley Lake, in Ohio, and his winters on the lanai in Punta Gorda, Florida — as he liked to say, “watching the world go by.”
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Barbara; his sister, Kathy Jacobs (Tom); his daughters, Stephanie (John) Hughes and Carie (Chad) DeLong; his stepchildren, Belinda (Dave) Pierce, Bruce (Pam) Burton, Brad (Maria) Burton, and Beth (Mike) Durham; his nephew, Jason (Jessica) Roth; and his grandchildren, Brittany (Joseph) Wilson, Tommy (Maggie) Ferritto, Tim Regula (Colleen), Katie (Alec) Platz, Madison Monroe, Brock (Abbey) Hughes, Broden Hughes, Miley DeLong, Braxton Hughes, Eddie (Lessly) Burton, Arlene Burton, and Jacob Burton, along with many beloved great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., at Flowers Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050. Burial will follow at Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon, with military honors conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
Doug was deeply passionate about supporting programs that serve veterans and their families in the post-9/11 era, with a particular focus on mental health, physical wellness, career counseling, and long-term independence.
