MOUNT VERNON – The 28th annual “Go Pink for a Cure” raised over $65,000 to support local patients of the Center for Cancer Care at Knox Community Hospital (KCH).
The Mount Vernon Country Club hosted the event on June 27.
This year’s program was dedicated to the early leadership of the late Carol Sue Owens. It honored the late Karen Buchwald Wright. Maureen Buchwald attended to receive the recognition of her daughter’s generosity to Go Pink.
More than 100 participants gathered in their assorted pinks to pay tribute to those affected by breast cancer. They raised funds through donations, golf foursomes, table games, and themed raffle baskets.
Bruce White, president and CEO of KCH, gave the keynote address. He recognized the committee’s hard work and the generous support of dedicated community members.
In past years, the proceeds from this event were designated for the Go Pink fund of the Foundation for KCH. This year, the Go Pink Committee decided to allocate the proceeds to the Foundation for KCH’s Linear Accelerator capital campaign.
This new equipment will help radiation therapy patients at the Center for Cancer Care. It not only represents a technological advancement but also an investment in the health and well-being of families, friends, and neighbors. A significant number of patients treated with radiation are breast cancer patients.
Breast health awareness is critical for the community
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among women in the United States. That makes breast cancer prevention and treatment, as well as breast health awareness, critical for our local community.
“We are grateful to all the individuals and businesses who generously give to help us raise money for breast health in Knox County,” said Barbara Barry, chair of the Go Pink Committee.
The committee consists of 10 Knox County women: Barry, Amy Brechler, Diane Carioti, Julie Farmer, Brenda Holcomb, Sara Lynn Kerr, Cindy Miller, Marci Pressler, Peggy Snow, and Teresa York.
