MOUNT VERNON — A Knox County grand jury indicted a homeless man and a Grove City resident for alleged breaking and entering and theft at Grab n’ Dash on Harcourt Road in Mount Vernon during its most recent session.

On or about Oct. 5, Dempsey R. Smith, 43, of Grove City, and Bradley J. McManmon, 25, homeless, allegedly committed the crimes.

Both indictments state that the defendants purposely attempted to “deprive the owner, Harcourt Grab n’ Dash, of property, to wit: multiple cartons of cigarettes and other nicotine products.”

The grand jury handed down fifth-degree felonies to Smith and McManmon for the breaking-and-entering charge.

As for the theft charge, both defendants received a fourth-degree felony charge, as the allegedly stolen property exceeded $7,500.

Both Smith and McManmon are scheduled to be arraigned before Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Richard Wetzel on Wednesday.

The grand jury also indicted Abigail J. Schaade, 26, of Mount Vernon, with a fourth-degree felony charge for allegedly being complicit in the theft and aiding Smith and McManmon.

Additionally, the grand jury handed down a fifth-degree felony charge for Schaade allegedly being complicit in Smith and McManmon breaking and entering Grab n’ Dash.

Schaade is scheduled to be arraigned before Judge Wetzel on Oct. 29.

Other grand jury indictments

The grand jury indicted nine others, too, including:

— Kieran J. Yoder, of Mount Vernon, burglary, third-degree felony.

— Brody Cosner, of Mount Vernon, receiving stolen property, fourth-degree felony.

— Shaun A. Garretson, of Mount Vernon, failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, third-degree felony.

— Joan A. Roesing, of Centerburg, aggravated vehicular assault, third-degree felony; operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first-degree misdemeanor.

— Timothy D. Boroff, of Mount Vernon, felonious assault, second-degree felony; specification as to count one; attempted murder, first-degree felony; specification as to count two.

— Shawn S. Barrett, of St. Louisville, aggravated trafficking in drugs, second-degree felony; forfeiture specification to count one; failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, third-degree felony; receiving stolen property, fifth-degree felony.

— Zachary L. Reynolds, of Mount Vernon, pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, fourth-degree felony; pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, fourth-degree felony; pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, fourth-degree felony.

— Natalee K. Pilotti, of Mount Vernon, receiving stolen property, fifth-degree felony.
