MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon police responded to the 900 block of East Gambier Street on Tuesday morning after Knox County 911 received a report of a shooting.
According to a press release posted on the department’s social media, the officers took a suspect into custody without incident.
Officers transported the suspect, Timothy Dean Boroff, to the Knox County Jail on a felonious assault charge.
Knox County Prosecutor Chip McConville told Knox Pages on Tuesday evening that he expects to file attempted murder charges on Wednesday.
According to Assistant Police Chief Andrew Burns, the initial incident occurred on Howard Street. A victim with multiple gunshots fled the scene. Officers located the victim on Center Street.
After officers secured the secondary scene, Mount Vernon Fire Department personnel provided medical care to the victim and transported that individual to a medical helicopter for transport to a trauma center.
The victim’s condition is unknown at this time.
Howard Street was closed for several hours while officers investigated.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office assisted the MVPD. MVPD detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
