MOUNT VERNON — Dazzling and delectable were the words of the day at the second annual Wood Challenge and Kiwanis Pie auction at Saturday’s Mount Vernon Music & Arts Festival.
Twelve artisans created 29 hand-crafted wood products ranging from a snowman to wall hangings to benches and tables for the wood challenge.
Scott Waters’ Knox Theatre table won the “Best of the Wood Challenge” award. The table includes authentic tickets inlaid on the top and a movie reel underneath.
Debbie Ruggles paid $575 to take home Waters’ tribute to the Memorial Theatre.
The wood challenge auction brought in $3,115. Half of the proceeds go to the artisan; half goes to support the music & arts festival.
The Mount Vernon Rotary Club also donated $250.
Eleven buyers paid $1,985 for 13 exquisite-looking pies ranging from mixed berry to peanut butter to Dutch apple.
The Knox County Career Center’s pecan pie was the highest seller, with Gary Keesee paying $500.
Proceeds benefit the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
