Patricia M. (Earlywine) Mickley, age 93, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully at the Ohio Eastern Star Home, on April 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born on February 20, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late Dwight and Harriet (Crow) Earlywine and was the eldest of five siblings. She was raised in Knox County and graduated as a valedictorian from Bladensburg High School in 1951. Patricia married Donald Q. Mickley from 1951 to 1971. They had four children: Douglas Mickley, Harriet Robertson, Mary Elizabeth Mickley, and Donna Mickley. They started their family on a farm in Danville, Ohio, and in 1962, moved to Mt. Vernon and purchased and operated Mt. Vernon Refrigeration.
In 1972, Patricia met and married Earnest J. (Jack) Stockum Jr. They enjoyed travelling around the world taking many cruises to the Caribbean’s Islands, Alaska, Greece, and trips to Europe, Hawaii and many other places. They wintered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and made many fond memories during their travels.
Patricia became a real estate agent in 1971, and advanced to a real estate broker who owned and operated, Patricia Mickley Realtors. The company was later sold to Showcase Realty where she continued as manager for many years. She was a member of the National, Ohio State, and Knox County Boards of Realtors for 43 years, and served as President of the Knox County Board for one year. Patricia loved her work and was very successful, as was evident in her recognition in the ‘million-dollar club’ for many years.
Patricia was a member of the United Congregational Church of Christ and most recently, the Victory Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce throughout her career and for several years served as an ambassador. She was a board member of The Main Place, located in Newark and Mt. Vernon. Patricia was also an active member of P.E.O. International. She was forever grateful for the guidance and support she received from Alcoholic Anonymous and the meaningful friendships she developed while attending for nearly four decades.
For those who knew her, Patricia was a beacon of light. She felt compassion for everyone she encountered and lived her life with an open heart and acceptance and love for all.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Earnest J. (Jack) Stockum Jr; daughter Mary Elizabeth Mickley and stepson Steve Stockum; her parents Dwight and Harriet Earlywine; brothers John Earlywine and Robert (Bob) Earlywine, sister Jayne (Earlywine) Mastroianni, and half-brother Charles Rumle.
