Deloris K. (Johson) Franz, 75, of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday evening, March 28, 2025 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on August 27, 1949 in Charleston, WV to the late Charles and Doris (McCune) Johnson.
Deloris was the oldest of 6 children and her family moved to Mount Vernon when she was young. She went to Mount Vernon High School but left before graduating to marry Jerry Franz when he was going into the Army. Deloris promised her parents she would graduate. It didn’t happen right away but years later she took her G.E.D. to get her diploma. Early in their marriage they were motorcycle enthusiasts, traveling to many states with friends, Ron and Loretta Griffith and Junior and Sharon Vance. For many years, they competed in car shows with their 71 Nova, 91 Firebird, and their favorite 92 Camaro (nick-named “Teally”). They won many awards in Super Chevy and ISCA indoor arenas. Later on, they enjoyed entering and judging car shows with their son and daughter-in-law. The other joy of their life together was their beloved dogs they had over the years – Mimi, Stockie, and Shania.
Deloris worked for 43 years as a Nurse’s Aide for the Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon.
After Jerry’s passing, she had more time to spend with family and friends. Her and her sisters could often be found during lunch dates having some Chinese food whenever they could get together.
Deloris is survived by her son, Stacy (Kelly) Franz; her siblings, Barb (John) Streby, Leon (Deloris) Johnson, Sue Lamb, and Faith (Mark) Dulaney; many nieces, nephews, friends, and special caregiver over the last 2 years, Cassie.
In addition to her parents, Deloris was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry on December 10, 2016; and a brother, Leonard Johnson.
The family will have a private graveside service for Deloris and Jerry in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
