John Wesley Chadwick, age 86, of Martinsburg, Ohio, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Whispering Hills Nursing Home in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He was born on February 3, 1939, in Brandon, Ohio, to the late Paul and Ellen (Hookway) Chadwick.
John graduated from Utica High School in 1957 and enlisted into the United States Army as a Medic. John served for approximately 3 years and was Honorably Discharged due to an unforeseen injury. After the service, John worked for Chattanooga Glass Company for several years until he acquired a position at United Telephone. John worked for United Telephone for 38 years, and during this time he met his wife Barbara F. (Hartsook). The two married on April 4th, 1980. John was a simple man, who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was gardening, horseback riding, hunting (deer/rabbit) or running his beagles. He was a man who loved to find a bargain and routinely participated with Tradio on the Radio. But John’s biggest enjoyment was the time he spent with his family.
John is survived by his children; Mandy (Henry) Wilson, Gretchen (Jared) Welsh, Lacy (Ryan) Lappie, Angie (Lance Marshall) Chadwick, Wesley Chadwick. 15 Grandchildren; Chad (Cassidy) Chadwick, Emily, Ethan and Elliott Holt, Henry and Benjamin Welsh, Kelsey Chadwick, Ariel Cochrane, Graci, Luke, and Isabel Lappie, Jesse JR Hammons, and JD Winegardner, John and Kaitlyn Chadwick. 2 great- grandchildren; Sebastian Hess, Case Chadwick, and many nieces and nephews. As well as his furry companion Dolly.
Along with his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara F. Chadwick, and a son, William J. Chadwick. Brothers; Gordon, Harry, and Dwight Chadwick, and a sister, Roberta McNeil.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 11 am until the time of funeral service starting at 1 PM, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home; 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050 with Chaplain T.J. Waters officiating. Burial will follow in Bladensburg Cemetery. Military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
