William R. “Bill” Ashcraft, 85, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on November 30, 1939 in Mount Vernon to the late Harry and Katherine (Dial) Ashcraft.
William honorably served his country in the Army. He was a truck driver for many years and after retirement he drove school bus and drove for the Amish. He was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church near Mount Vernon, the Colonial City Moose Lodge #2555, and a lifetime member of the AmVets. William enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and Guardians, woodworking, going to thrift shops and collecting hurricane lamps.
William is survived by his children, Timothy (Kelley) Ashcraft of Fredericktown and Kathy (Jeff) Balcom of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jody (Kyle) Thompson, Josh Balcom, Kyle (Patty) Ashcraft, Kurt Ashcraft, and Lindsay (Scott) Hansen; great-grandchildren, Kaeden Ashcraft, James Thompson, Madison Thompson, Logan Thompson, Landon Hansen and Emilynn Hansen; a brother, Larry (Shirley) Ashcraft of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Wertz; a granddaughter, Lori McKeever; sisters, Barb Ronshausen and Donna Gleason; and a brother, Paul Ashcraft.
The family will receive friends from Noon until the time of a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday February 19, 2025 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. Burial will follow in Wilson Chapel Cemetery near Warsaw.
