Loretta Mary Gorney, 84 of Bladensburg passed away on September 24, 2024 at her residence with several members of loving family in attendance. She was born on February 13, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late Joseph and Amelia (Rosanski) Stech.
Loretta was a Bachelor of Accounting Summa Cum Laude graduate of Lemoyne College. Loretta was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville and formerly a member of the Church of the Nativity in Utica. She enjoyed gardening, landscaping, quilting and sewing.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Richard Francis Gorney; children, Deborah Ann Saroff, Sherrie Marie Gorney Johnson, Lisa Joan Gorney, Bonny Karen (Paul) Schow, Kevin Edward Gorney and Keith Joseph (Susan) Gorney; grandchildren, Katrina (Travis) Woodard, Jeremiah Johnson, Richard Johnson, Madie Johnson, Brittany (Will) Lancaster, Charlie (Nicole) Grime, Ethan (Amanda) Gorney, Connor Gorney, Cody Schow, Jared (Sarah) Schow, Abigail Schow, Reese Gorney, Harper Gorney, Stella Gorney and Teigan Gorney; Lauren Dalvey, Lillian Dalvey, Jon Dalvey, and Leighton Dalvey; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister, Michaeline Stitt.
When Loretta was diagnosed with breast cancer, we concurred as a family we would give it to Jesus divine will. We would walk with Jesus in prayer for mitigation or to Jesus. Our Lord’s will was that Loretta would enter her eternal forever home.
She passed from us to her Lord God peacefully on September 24, 2024 a couple of hours after receiving the anointing and Apostolic Pardon of the Catholic Church.
We thank you Lord for the exceptional blessing of this woman’s presence in our lives and beings, we thank you for all her time, the memories, and gifts of her character bestowed upon us, please grant us the strength to endure until we see her again and continue our lives as a testimony to her faith, love, loyalty and commitment to her family.
The family will receive friends from 2-4pm on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Brucker-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica where a prayer vigil will be held at 4pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday at St. Luke Catholic Church, 307 N. Market St., Danville with Father Mark Hammond as celebrant. Burial will follow at St Luke Cemetery, lunch reception at St Luke Parish Center directly after.
