Knox County Republicans have the opportunity to rehire or hire a county commissioner during the March 19 primary for the Jan. 3, 2025, seat.
Considering their “resumes” of their experience, record of public and community service, along with their potential to serve Knox County residences, I recommend rehiring Thom Collier.
Mr. Collier has a long and distinguished history as a public servant serving as a Mount Vernon city councilman, Ohio House Representative, and as our current county commissioner.
His awards range from Watchdog of the Treasury to being honored by the Knox County Farm Bureau for Outstanding Service to Agriculture.
Most importantly, in my opinion, the community service Mr. Collier has given to the Knox residents his entire life stands out.
He has received numerous awards including the Mount Vernon Exchange Club Exchangite of the Year, the Mount Vernon JAYCEES Distinguished Service Award, and more.
He’s given his time and energy from serving food at the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festivals, and the Centerburg Farming Festivals to assisting in parking cars for the local 4th of July Fireworks event.
He has assisted many charities, from supporting local pregnancy centers to those working to prevent child abuse.
Reference supporting the local Knox Republican Party, as this a primary, Mr. Collier has worked decades to get local, state, and national conservative Republicans elected.
From serving on the local central and executive committees to working on many Get Out the Vote activities.
Upon reviewing his competitors, especially from their public statements during recent candidate events, their public service, specifically to Knox County, is almost nonexistent.
His opponent, Mr. Phillips stated, “I haven’t got involved.”
The other opponent, Ms Keesee, only seems to mention her children attending the local colleges/universities. I heard a statement once, “I’m in the community for the community.”
It seems Mr. Collier is the only candidate who is “IN” the community “FOR” the community and has proven it over several decades.
Looking at Mr. Collier’s opponents’ local Republican Party involvement, both get poor grades.
Mr. Phillips, even after seeking the local Republican endorsement in December 2023, has repeatedly advertised for Democrats/Non-Republicans to vote for him. I find this disrespectful to me and other loyal Republicans. This devalues our Republican Primary vote.
Ms. Keesee, to my best findings, has also been absent for helping local Republicans and election activities. I understand that she has voted in less than half of the last seven Republican primaries.
I don’t think it’s too much to ask of those competing as a Republican candidate to participate fully and actively, with integrity.
Mr. Collier has proven his long-time commitment to Knox County residents through his public and community service and as a Republican/Conservative.
On final review, I will “rehire” (vote for) Thom Collier for Knox County Commissioner and encourage other Republicans to do the same.
