Patrick James “PJ” Ewers, age 73, of Mount Vernon, passed
away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at The James Cancer
Hospital in Columbus.
He was born on November 16, 1949, in Mount Vernon and was
the son of the late Kenneth Victor and Vera Ruth (Skeen) Ewers.
He is survived by his wife, Nann (Frizzell) Ewers, two daughters,
Brandie Ewers and Robyn Ewers, two step-sons, Justin (Gwen)
Crawford and Andy Crawford, nine grandchildren, Patrick Curtis,
Jake Curtis, Ethan Shepherd, Andrew (Holly) Davisson, Bruce
Davisson, Luke Davisson, Vanessa Crawford, Jasper Crawford,
Kiedis Monteith, one great grandchild Turner Davisson and a
sister, Kathy Stover.
Patrick is a lifelong resident of Mt Vernon. He served in the United
State Navy during the Vietnam War and took great pride in having
been able to serve his country during this time. He worked most
of his career at the phone company as a line man and was a
member of the Moose and the Elks.
Patrick had a true servant heart. He was the first person to offer to
help a friend or stranger in need. Each year he would make a
sizeable donation of supplies to a teacher at the beginning of
each school year to help offset cost, because he knew the burden
they had to bear. He could fix anything and often was given items
that were broken. He would fix them and find a suitable home
where they were needed. These are just a few of the things that
we knew about but there were likely so many more things that he
did, he never wanted recognition his only goal was to brighten the
day of another. He was a kind and selfless man who touched the
lives of so many Knox County residents. He will be greatly
missed.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider making a
donation to the James Cancer Center in his name and/or do
something kind for another for no other reason than to show them
a glimpse of the kindness that still exists in this world in his honor.
That would have been food for his soul and the greatest way to
honor his memory.
The family is observing private services. The Snyder Funeral
Home – Lasater Chapel is handling the arrangements for the
family.
