Samuel R. Williams, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday morning, September 22, 2023 at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville. He was on born December 12, 1940 in Lock, Ohio to the late Bryant and Ruth (Heil) Williams.

Sam honorably served his country in the Army National Guard of Ohio from 1960 to 1964. He was the Dog Warden for Knox County for 22 years, retiring in 2000. Sam was a member of the Mt. Zion Lodge #9 F. & A.M., Knox Chapter #236 of the Ohio Eastern Star, Morgan Grange, and Chapter Y of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He enjoyed collecting classic cars but had a particular interest in the Chevrolet Corvairs. He also collected Honda Gold Wings and has traveled to almost every state in the continental United States with his late wife, Carolyn and other family members. Later in life he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his loving partner, Janet White.

Sam is survived by his children, Darrell Williams and Randal Williams; grandchildren, Kevin Williams, Gary (Jessica) Williams, Alaina Williams, Shaun Fouch, Randal Williams Jr. Natasha Williams and Nathan Williams; great grandchild, Chloe Williams; nephew, Dennis Williams; niece, Sandra Swartz; and his partner, Janet White.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Williams; son, Gary Williams; brothers, Leland and Lewis Williams; and a sister, Helen Fowler.

The family will receive friends from 11- 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4,2023 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Dowds Chapel, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. An Eastern Star and Masonic memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 followed by a funeral service with Rev. Jerry Ernst officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
