MOUNT VERNON — A Highland High School graduate who was “always good at math” is the new assistant treasurer of the Knox Educational Service Center.
Triston Hinkle began work this summer. He fills the vacancy created by the promotion of Melissa Carpenter to ESC treasurer.
A 2021 Highland graduate, Hinkle spent two years at Heidelberg University. He is continuing studies online.
“I am working toward degrees in business administration, computer science and accounting,” he said. “Then I plan to pursue a master’s in accounting.”
Hinkle was a member of Business Professionals of America at Highland. His interest in accounting was spurred by the suggestion of a teacher.
“When I was a sophomore I took a business class that included mostly seniors,” Hinkle said. “The teacher saw something in me and advised me to drop another class and take accounting instead.
“I have always been good at math. I feel like math and business skills, and my familiarity with computer systems, will allow me to do the job here.”
A member of the Heidelberg wrestling team, Hinkle helped to coach wrestling at Highland last year. He plans to continue that volunteer role this season.
