GAMBIER — Pickleball is coming to Gambier’s Community Center.
Village Administrator R.C. Wise said pickleball is expected to open Friday.
With the net having wheels, Wise said there’s an opportunity for pickleball to be played outside.
The call for pickleball came at a meeting last Monday, Wise said, with a village resident asking if the village could accommodate.
The pickleball court will be open for those to use in tandem with the community center’s hours of operation.
Inside the community center’s gym, the pickleball court’s dimensions were taped off like an actual pickleball court.
The net with all the trimmings included cost $119, Wise said.
Village purchases versatile backhoe
Village council moved to purchase an SV loader backhoe at Monday’s meeting, costing the village $114,771. Before the purchase, the village had a 20-year-old backhoe from the 1980s.
Purchasing a backhoe rather than leasing one would help the village reduce spending on outside labor, Wise said.
