DANVILLE — The track at Danville Local Schools will have a fresh surface and a new extension this summer, costing the district roughly $198,402.
The district’s board of education approved the six-figure purchase at its March meeting on Monday night.
The track will be replaced with a six-coat latex system and an extension near the home sidelines will be added. The all-weather track is expected to last 10-12 years, supt. Jason Snively said.
Prodigy Building Solutions is spearheading the project, with the track expected to be completed before the 2023-24 school year begins, according to company representative Jim Zavesky.
There are currently seven 41-inch lanes on the track, though there are discussions of adding another lane. If eight lanes were added, each lane would roughly be 37 inches wide. This will increase the number of runners on the track and expedite activities.
The start line will also be moved to the opposite side of the track, along with the bleachers, Snively said.
