CENTERBURG — Knox Community Hospital will soon move out of Centerburg High School’s weight room next January, ending an 11-plus-year residency.

The move has been in the works since 2021 with former Centerburg Supt. Mike Hebenthal shepherding the project. It has continued and along with current Supt. Ryan Gallwitz, according to Debbie Link, Director for the Center for Rehabilitation & Wellness.

Knox Community Hospital’s new facility, including Connections Fitness, will just be further down Columbus Road, bringing several improvements.

The 17,000 square-foot facility costing roughly $9 million, includes primary and specialty care offices, outpatient imaging, physical therapy, a fitness center and a therapy pool. There will also be an exterior yoga and exercise patio, with no other expansions planned at this time, Link said.

“In terms of health care and overall wellness, our primary care providers will be able to serve more patients, the facility offers space and equipment for services that were not available within our current primary care clinic in Centerburg,” Link said. “Also, specialty care services including (but not limited to) cardiovascular, women’s health and orthopedic services will be offered in the new center.”

KCH will continue to collaborate alongside Centerburg Schools with athletic training as well as exploring potential opportunities for student career development and school employee wellness programs, Link said.

The wellness center is set to open for patient services Jan. 23 and the fitness center is scheduled to open Jan. 17.
