COLUMBUS — Central Ohio Youth Ballet will bring The Nutcracker to The Woodward Opera House on Dec 10 and 11. Highlighting the production is the magic, pageantry and energetic dance of the holiday classic.
Artistic director Robert Cole, former dancer with The National Ballet of Canada, has drawn together a talented company of dancers from five counties to present this beloved ballet. The production opens with the exciting party scene, builds to the battle between toy soldiers and menacing mice then proceeds through snowy landscape into the colorful kingdom of the sweets. The timeless story is revealed with beautiful dancing, vivid costumes and details to sparkle and entertain audiences of all ages.
Forty youth dancers, flanked by adults as carolers and party attendees bring alive the story of Clara and her enchanted nutcracker in this fast paced, family friendly production, all set to Tchaikovsky’s classic score.
The Central Ohio Youth Ballet is a 501 (c)(3) organization located in downtown Newark and has presented The Nutcracker and various modern and ballet works in a spring production since 1995.
“The dancers, costume and set designers, and artistic team of Central Ohio Youth Ballet are thrilled to reconnect with live audiences after two years of performing in our studio which we adapted for filming,” Cole said.
The Nutcracker will be performed for the first time at The Woodward Opera House on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 6 pm and Sunday, Dec. 11, at 1:30 pm and 6 pm. Tickets are available at thewoodward.org or by calling 740-236-6737.
