MOUNT VERNON – Judge John Thatcher found 20 people guilty after court trials, arraignments and hearings this week in Mount Vernon Municipal Court.
The Mount Vernon Law Director’s Office prosecuted the following cases.
AUG. 3
Christopher Birchfield, 26, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Possessing Drug Abuse Instruments. The Court sentenced him to pay court costs and serve 5 days in jail.
Stephen DeShong, 36, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Driving Under a 12 Point Suspension. The Court sentenced him to pay court costs and serve 10 days in jail.
Joshua Curl, 35, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Driving Under an FRA Suspension. The Court sentenced him to pay a $300 fine.
Takara Hofmann, 28, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Driving Under an FRA Suspension. The Court sentenced her to pay a $200 fine.
Law Director, Rob Broeren represented the City of Mount Vernon in the Birchfield and DeShong cases. Assistant Law Director, Brittany Whitney, represented the City of Mount Vernon in the Curl and Hoffman cases.
AUG. 2
Eric Over, 41, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Marijuana. The Court sentenced him to pay a $50 fine for each charge.
Michelle Dobson, 46, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle with Expired Plates. The Court sentenced her to pay a $25 fine.
Steven Miller, 34, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Possession of Drug Abuse Instruments. The Court sentenced him to serve 30 days in jail.
Samantha Cunningham, 29, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The Court sentenced her to serve 10 days in jail.
Corey Woods, 19, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Theft. The Court sentenced him to serve 180 days in jail, with all time suspended, and placed him on two years of probation with the following condition: pay $30 in restitution.
Cody Lewis, 29, of Howard, was found guilty of Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia and Operating a Vehicle with Expired Plates. The Court sentenced him to pay a $75 fine for the Possession charge and a $25 fine for the Expired Plates charge.
Tyler Stoller, 24, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Theft. The Court sentenced him to serve 180 days in jail, with 160 days suspended, and placed him on two years of probation.
Arron Daugherty, 28, of Coshocton, was found guilty of Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The Court sentenced him to pay a $250 fine, serve 30 days in jail, placed him on one year of community control with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment.
Alexander Blain, 27, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Driving Under a 12-Point Suspension. The Court sentenced him to serve five days in jail.
Tyler Grubaugh, 18, of Fredericktown, was found guilty of two counts of Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor. He will be sentenced on September 13, 2022 following a pre-sentence investigation.
Frank Nagy, 65, of Butler, was found guilty of Domestic Violence, Assault and Violating a Protection Order. He will be sentenced on September 13, 2022 following a pre-sentence investigation.
Assistant Director of Law, Brittany Whitney, represented the City of Mount Vernon in the Grubaugh case and the State of Ohio in the Nagy cases.
Director of Law, Rob Broeren, represented the City of Mount Vernon and the State of Ohio in the remaining cases.
AUG. 1
Corey Anderson, 27, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Falsification and Possessing a Defaced Firearm. The Court sentenced him to serve 180 days in jail and placed him on two years of probation with the following conditions: complete a drug and alcohol assessment, complete 25 hours of community service, and prohibited him from possessing deadly weapons.
Garrett Smith, 27, of Clinton, was found guilty of Having Physical Control of a Motor Vehicle While being Under the Influence of Alcohol. The Court sentenced him to pay a $1,000 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 177 days suspended, placed him on two years of community service with the following condition: attend and complete a 72-hour driver intervention program and complete a drug and alcohol assessment, and suspended his operator’s license for 90 days.
Brandon Hess, 40, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Telecommunications Harassment. He will be sentenced on September 12, 2022 following a pre-sentence investigation.
