GAMBIER — The Village of Gambier council purchased a new dump truck and discussed the proposed roundabout at the intersection of Ohio 308/229

Council purchased a 2023 Chevrolet 3500 four-wheel truck that has a snow plow and dump body for $65,494. The purchase is going through Valley Chevrolet of Wellington.

The new truck will replace a 2008 Ford that was being used by the village. It’s expected to go to auction, Village Administrator R.C. Wise said. Wise also said the new truck probably won’t be in Gambier until the fall.

Council signed contracts between the village and ODOT for the shared-use path between Ward and Wiggin Street crossing, and the roundabout at the intersection of Ohio 229 and 308. ODOT awarded the village a highway safety improvement program grant to place flashing lights at the crossing for pedestrians.

The contract is the next step toward getting non-motorized traffic from the downtown area to the Laymon Road bridge, according to Wise.

Also regarding ODOT, council approved the installation of a rapid rectangular flashing beacon (RRFB) at a pedestrian crossing on Meadow Lane.

The safety project has a set price of $19,470 and will be completed by Greenwich Electric, of Medina.

Council discussed placing the beacon where children from Knox County Head Start cross the street.
