MOUNT VERNON – A Knox County nursing home employee has tested positive for COVID-19.
Knox County Health Commissioner Julie Miller confirmed Wednesday that a staff member at The Laurels of Mount Vernon, located at 13 Avalon Rd., has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The patient, a 22-year-old female, was Knox County’s 10th confirmed case. She is the first Knox County nursing home resident or staff member to be infected with COVID-19, Miller said.
The patient is currently isolated at home, according to Knox Public Health.
Miller said Knox Public Health received word of the confirmed case on Sunday and immediately notified The Laurels of Mount Vernon, an 109-bed nursing and rehabilitation center on the north end of the city.
The Laurels of Mount Vernon declined to comment Wednesday on the situation.
Readers notified Knox Pages that a letter had been sent to family members of residents and staff, confirming the case.
Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton signed an order Monday requiring all long-term care facilities to notify residents and their families within 24 hours of a resident or staff member testing positive for COVID-19.
This is a developing story.
