Quarry Chapel sits at the intersection of Quarry Chapel Road and Monroe Mills Road, just a mile northeast of Gambier. The stone chapel was built in 1862 and consecrated in January of 1863.

There is a graveyard adjacent to Quarry Chapel, which includes a plotted out Jewish cemetery, the first in Knox County.

Part of the extensive renovation of the facility over the last forty years was filling in the original coal storage basement with gravel and laying a new floor. New pews were achieved by buying standard church pews, then cutting them in half and building new end supports. Otherwise, standard pews wouldn’t allow for an aisle up the middle of the church.

The Quarry Chapel bell tower houses a bell cast by a foundry in Fredericktown, Ohio.

Extensive damage was done to the roof of Quarry Chapel a few years back when an old tree toppled over onto the structure. The rebuilt roof and floor of the building were made out of oak wood donated by Kenyon College.

Other old trees remain around the chapel, enhancing its fairy tale atmosphere.
