Linda Marie Kohlmeier
-
Linda Kohlmeier worked as a go-go-dancer at Steve’s Bar and Grill, one of what in the 1960s were several bars on Columbus Road in Mount Vernon. Today, most of the bars are gone, and Steve’s place is now Barb’s Diner.
-
It was on this stretch of New Gambier Road, just east of Ohio 308, that Linda Kohlmeier was bludgeoned to death and dumped.
-
DNA testing of seminal fluid found on the victim’s underwear matched career career criminal Ulysses Hale Jr., from Plymouth, Michigan. In and out of prison over the years for assault, robbery, and sex crimes, Hale was confirmed by Knox County Sheriff’s Office research to have lived in Mount Vernon in 1966 and that he worked near the bar where Kohlmeier danced.
-
Linda Marie Kohlmeier is buried in the St. Anne Section of the Calvary Cemetery in Massillon.
-
Covered with water and ice, Linda Kohlmeier’s gravestone was not directly visible.
-
Linda Kohlmeier, wearing a white ribbon in her hair, is seen here working with other members of the Falcon Review, their school newspaper at Fairless High School. At the time, her stated ambition was to become a journalist.
-
The blurred outline of Linda’s headstone can be seen beneath the ice. Someone put poinsettias on the grave at Christmas.
-
The author chipped away the ice in an attempt to get a picture of the headstone, but reflections and the muddy water prevented much visibility. By cupping his hands around the camera, the author was able to make out the name “Linda.”
-
This photograph of Linda Marie Kohlmeier comes from the Fairless High School yearbook for 1965, the year she graduated.
