Lawrence N. O’Harra

Orval Gail Henthorn, 82, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away on Friday evening, Nov. 2, 2018 at the Ralph A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

He was born on July 3, 1936 in Danville to the late Cletice Henthorn and Marie (Dickson) Henthorn Heaton.

Gail honorably served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. In 1991, he retired from the Newark Air Force Base.

Gail is survived by his daughters, Sheila (James) Gallick, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and Cynthia (Neil) Hersman, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; three grandchildren and give great grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd (Diane) Henthorn, of Mount Vernon, Garland Henthorn, of Mount Vernon, and Dean (Emily) Henthorn, of Mount Vernon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Gail was preceded in death by his wife, Ada (Carper) Henthorn on Nov. 7, 2013.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018. Gail will be laid to rest beside his wife, Ada in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
