CENTERBURG – As the second half of the regular season begins, this week’s Game of the Week matchup will have serious implications on the 2018 KMAC title race.

East Knox (5-0, 2-0 KMAC) will face Centerburg (3-2, 1-1 KMAC) in a battle of teams just one game apart atop the conference standings. After falling to Highland last week, Centerburg will likely need to win on Friday night in order to keep its KMAC title hopes alive. Meanwhile, East Knox will look to stay atop the conference standings with a crucial road win.

This week’s Game of the Week video not only previews the KMAC battle between East Knox and Centerburg, but also highlights other key games around Knox County heading into Week 6:

East Knox has been nothing short of dominant through the first half of the regular season, winning its five games by an average of 48 points per contest. The Bulldogs beat Cardington-Lincoln 47-17 last week, which was the first time this season they had been held under the 50-point mark.

While the Bulldogs have seemed flawless on both sides of the ball so far this season, it is important to note that the combined record of their first five opponents is currently 2-23. Over the next month, East Knox will play Centerburg (3-2), Northmor (5-0) and Highland (4-1) in games which will ultimately decide its KMAC title and playoff fate.

The Bulldogs have yet to face an opponent with a winning record this season. That will change when they travel to Centerburg on Friday.

Centerburg has already surpassed its 2017 win total this season, having handled Utica, Northridge-Johnstown and Cardington-Lincoln within the first month of play. But the short-handed Trojans fell on hard times last week in their first real test of the season, when they lost to Highland, 36-6. They were held to just 91 total yards of offense, while Highland rushed for 408 yards themselves.

A conference title is still well within reach for the Trojans, however, although a win Friday may be crucial in pulling off such a feat. Highland, East Knox and Northmor are all currently tied for first place in the conference with five weeks left to play.

Last year, East Knox beat Centerburg 34-0 in Howard.
