LUCAS – This week’s Knox Pages Game of the Week features two teams that dominated defensively in week one.
Centerburg (1-0) forced four turnovers in a 28-14 road win over Utica, while Lucas (1-0) surrendered just 108 total yards of offense in a 22-0 win over Danville. These defenses will go head-to-head on Friday night at Bob Wine Field at 7 p.m.
Lucas beat Danville last week for the first time since 1991, as the Cubs jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Senior tailback Jeb Grover led Lucas with 141 rushing yards, while fellow senior Kaiden Thomas scampered for 89 yards and a had momentous 26-yard touchdown carry in the first quarter.
Centerburg led 14-7 at halftime over Utica last Friday but forced three turnovers in the second half to hold on for a two-touchdown win. Sophomore quarterback John Sheasby went 10-of-20 passing for 103 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver Donnell Marshall tallied 90 yards and two touchdowns, while senior running back Michael Kuhn had 22 carries for 84 yards and two scores.
Lucas has defeated Centerburg the last three seasons and won last year, 37-7. Centerburg’s last win over Lucas came in 2014, when the Trojans won at home, 28-7.
