SANDUSKY — On July 12 – 15, a fleet of historic tall ships accompanied by the internationally renowned World’s Largest Rubber Duck, will be traveling to Sandusky, in celebration of the city’s much anticipated 200th birthday.
For a city that’s already swarming with excitement, Festival of Sail Sandusky adds even more buzz to Sandusky’s Bicentennial 2018 year.
“We’re very excited to be part of such a historic moment,” said Craig Samborski, executive producer of Festival of Sail Sandusky. “Sandusky’s heritage and beauty is inspiring. We’re hoping to add to it by putting on a very unique, once-in-a-lifetime event.”
While Sandusky, Ohio is no stranger to tall ships, the town will host the World’s Largest Rubber Duck for the very first time. A welcome attraction for a location that’s perfect for such a humungous bath toy, Sandusky’s historic waterfront and the increased accessibility it provides for onlookers make it the ideal venue to show off the duck’s larger-than-life proportions: 61-feet tall and 15 tons to be exact.
Circling the duck will be the main attraction, majestic tall ships hailing from across the globe. One such ship is locally celebrated U.S. Brig Niagara, the wooden-hulled brig that served as the relief flagship for Oliver Hazard Perry in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.
Other ships attending include Schooner Madeline, Appledore IV, S/v Denis Sullivan and the Lettie G. Howard.
A plethora of additional attractions will be featured during the festival that includes ship tours, day sails, educational programming, local food and beverage, live music, entertainment and fun for the entire family.
Tickets for the festival range from $20 Multi-Day On Board Tour Passes to a $59 Fast Pass or $65 Day Sail.
